Public Engagement Coordinator – Contract

Type: Full time, contract until June 30, 2023 with possibility of permanent employment

Location: This position will involve flexible working arrangements from home, at the Creative Fire shared workspaces (Saskatoon) and travel to client and project locations around Saskatchewan.

We are looking for team members who are passionate about inclusive, creative and authentic public, stakeholder and Rightsholder engagement. You will support clients in planning, implementing and evaluating public engagement processes to support effective decision-making. Our team supports clients working towards sustainability, Reconciliation and energy solutions for a net zero world, including utilities, crown corporations, government departments and private companies.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to develop impactful engagement workplans that align with existing strategy.
  • Plan and implement digital and in-person public engagement activities, including event coordination and logistics, note-taking, public outreach, facilitation and reporting.
  • Gathers, analyzes and synthesizes public engagement data into comprehensive reports, ensuring results can be applied to decision-making processes.
  • Reviews and contributes to communications plans, materials and assets to support engagement.
  • Stays current on latest trends and best practices, provide insight and guidance to leadership, other teams and colleagues on topics related to community engagement and public participation.

Skills

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable navigating new environments and engaging people in conversation.
  • Organized, focused and able to manage multiple tasks, while delivering on time and on budget.
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with clients.
  • Bring a “listen first” approach to all projects.
  • Passionate about community engagement and meaningful participation.
  • Ability to work in a remote/hybrid team atmosphere and receive guidance to execute on detailed strategies.
  • Capable facilitator, with experience planning and delivering meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in social sciences, planning, communications, community development, public administration or policy, or a related discipline, plus a minimum of 2 years of directly related experience OR no post-secondary education and a minimum of 4 years of directly related experience.
  • Directly related experience must include planning and implementing at least one of the following: policy, programs, communications campaigns, public outreach materials, and/or consultation and engagement strategies.
  • Training by the International Association of Public Participation or other formal training in public engagement is an asset.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and highly dynamic work environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in Indigenous issues in Canada, including Indigenous governance, community development, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action.

• Capturing and summarizing insights from engagement sessions

Project Management

Summer Project
• Leading discovery process to identify team pain points
• Creating and executing approach to address pain point
• Presenting a solution to team at end of summer

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a University or College program
• Experience working with Indigenous Nations or businesses is an asset
• Creative and solution-oriented, with exceptional attention to detail
• Experience working as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Forward thinking and in touch with current trends
