This supply chain analysis reviewed all goods and services purchased by the Federal government, comparing the total government spend to the capacity of Indigenous businesses
to supply. The research, conducted in partnership with Big River Analytics, demonstrated that Indigenous businesses could provide 24% of all Federal spend in a given year, without compromising on price, timelines or quality. Based on this research, the Federal government committed to a 5% target of Federal spend on Indigenous businesses. The 5% target corresponds to the percentage of Indigenous peoples in Canada and represents a $1 billion commitment.
